Our story

I’ve enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember; whether or not I do it well is another matter but nonetheless, here I am.

I also enjoy traveling…..well, I actually love traveling. My affection for travel started at a young age as my grandma would pick my sister and I up in her RV and we’d roam from state to state looking for Missions or some other historical site she had lined up for us. Being on the road belting out Irish drinking songs and navigating the open highway are some of my favorite childhood memories. (If you’ve ever tried to sing along then you know what I mean).

Over the last few years, there’s pretty much nothing else I’ve wanted to do than travel.

Most of my time and energy is spent searching for cheap flights hours on end just to see where I can go and what would be cool to see. Nothing makes me happier than finding a deal and immediately pulling the trigger. Yes, traveling can be very expensive but if you’re patient and willing to put the time in, it doesn’t have to be. I also don’t spend much of my money on anything else, so making it a priority helps. That’s where my wife comes into the picture. Hannah and I started this long-distance adventure back in December of 2016 and since then it’s been a collective effort to scour the globe. The experiences we’ve shared over the last seven years have unequivocally been the greatest of my life.

As most people who are obsessed with travel would say, there’s just something about putting yourself out there in the world to see how everyone else lives….how the rest of the world simply does things. Whether it’s the food, the people, or the sights, I find it all very fascinating. Having said that, we’re always talking about better ways to immerse ourselves into the culture we find ourselves in front of. It’s easy enough to get caught up in just seeing the main attractions, trying the food and heading home. For some, that might be sufficient and that’s great, but I want more. I’ll never judge how someone decides to travel, I think it’s all amazing, including the tourist traps. Yes, they’re overcrowded and sometimes very annoying but they’re also extremely popular for a reason. For me, I would say it’s better to try and find a good balance between the congestion and the areas off the beaten path (hopefully somewhere you can’t buy a souvenir). Trust me when I tell you that I’m certainly not a perfect traveler.

So in the end, here we are….. starting a blog to document our memories, continue my joy for writing and maybe, just maybe… get a few of you to laugh along with our commentary. As Hannah explained on the welcome page, we invite family, friends and anyone else who wishes to come along for the ride to share in our experiences. I’m not foolish enough to think my life is more interesting than anyone else’s or that people would actually want to read what I have to say. I do however think this could be a great deal of fun and so for right now, that’s the plan. Good old-fashioned fun. I’d love to reflect on this blog years from now wondering how in the hell did we do so much.

It’s not lost on me that I am so very lucky to be living the life I have…………… the life we have.
